Thanks to your support, this summer Epic was back with in-person arts experiences from the classroom to the rehearsal room, on stage and on set.

2021 EPIC NEXT SUMMER INTENSIVE

With in-person arts instruction 4 days a week for six weeks, Epic served more than 180 students from 10 NYC Public High Schools

FILM SHOOTS

Creation of the Nation
What impact does the legacy of slavery have on the U.S. today? Amid state and district bans on The 1619 Project and Critical Race Theory, how do educators find the courage to teach truthful history? This short film will be seen by thousands of students and educators all across the country.

Romeo and Juliet
How do you end a cycle of violence with deep roots? Set in the Bronx, this visually saturated film captures the heat of a New York City summer where tensions run high when people are pushed outdoors. Romeo and Juliet is made possible by Shakespeare in American Communities, a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest.

TOURING

After reaching thousands of audience members through online touring presentations like The Fifty State Conversation, our youth ensemble Epic NEXT has three new commissioned plays ready to go and built for outdoor and socially-distanced performances. Commissioning Partners include Strong Economy for All, Poverty & Race Research Action Council, and the National Coalition on School Diversity.

This Fall, Epic will be expanding our programming by:

  • Bringing on six new high school partners for in-school arts residencies in English, History, Civics, and Science classes.
  • Adding four new middle school partners to Remix, our nationally-recognized after-school program.
  • Doubling the number of students reached with interactive arts workshops on topics like culturally-responsive education, policing in schools, and bullying, through our ongoing collaboration with The NYC Department of Education’s Office of Safety and Youth Development.

Over the last 18 months Epic’s closest friends and supporters came through for us. Please consider making a 100% tax-deductible donation to allow us to keep connecting with students, artists, and audiences throughout New York City and beyond!
